What size drum kit should I purchase? We are asked this by parents all the time, it can be tricky. When you buy small childrens drums, we recommend them for youngsters 3 to 5 years old. The reason is, they are much smaller than a regular sized drum set. These drums for tots are sometimes called “mini-kits”. When purchasing these kits take note of the size of the bass drum size. (they are usually 12″ – 13″ – 16″ in circumference). It will help you visualize how large the whole drumset is.
We do not recommend this class of drums for intermediate, older kids or teens. The rule of thumb when buying drums is “buy larger”. If your child is a little older or you feel they have talent for drumming, I would recommend a larger kit to grow into. See here: First Drum Set Discounts
